Ontario’s PC government is delivering the largest expansion of medical education in more than a decade to train more doctors and connect more families with the care they need.
We’re adding 340 undergraduate medical seats and 551 postgraduate residency positions, including a 67 per cent increase in family medicine learners.
We’re also building and expanding medical schools across the province.
Last year, our PC government opened the new Toronto Metropolitan University School of Medicine, Ontario’s first new medical school in 20 years, supported by a $180 million investment.
And we’re investing $55.8 million to support the new York University School of Medicine, which is set to open in 2028 with a focus on training family doctors.
Once these expansions are fully implemented, Ontario will have eight medical schools, with 1,292 undergraduate and 1,739 postgraduate medical seats across the province.
